How the Club Works
Where We Play: All open court times, practices and home matches are held at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The address for driving directions is 2820 Prairie Meadow Drive Iowa City, IA 52242. The Complex has 12 outdoor and 8 indoor courts and is accessible via Cambus on the Hawkeye/Interdorm route.
If you are interested in joining the club feel free to e-mail us. The club runs throughout the academic year, accepting new members at any time with no tryouts necessary for basic club membership. If you are interested in joining mid-year, check our schedule and let us know of an open court time you will attend. There we can collect your membership fee, and explain what you need to know about the club. For $60 per semester or $100 for the year, you receive unlimited access to indoor and outdoor court time at the Hawkeye Tennis Recreation Complex, 2 cans of balls at interest meetings, access to our online ladder, a club t-shirt, and a great opportunity to meet local tennis players.
The club uses Tennis Engine for its online ladder. Once becoming a member of the club, you will receive access with your personal profile. Using Tennis Engine, you can set up matches with fellow club members at ANY time (just let us know so we can reserve a court for you). We have open court time during the week at night, as well as variable times on the weekends. Once you play a match, you can submit your score and all members are ranked based on their match performances.
There will also be intramural-style bracket tournaments during each semester (on a weekend) open exclusively to club members. Depending on the number of signups, there may be multiple brackets by NTRP rating and/or age. There are prizes for the top finishers.
The club traveling team represents the Hawkeyes in the Missouri Valley Conference in the United States Tennis Association. The team is a co-ed subgroup of the club, consisting of around 10-12 members. These members are selected based on tryouts that are held at the beginning of the year, within the first 2 or 3 weeks of school. While no participation is required of a basic club member, the traveling team has weekly practices that members are strongly encouraged to attend. We have dual matches, quad meets and tournaments throughout each semester, with signup priority given to the traveling team.
