      <title>2012 Sand in the City Team Participation Opportunity!</title>
      <description>
	Dear UI Student Organizations:
	Iowa City&amp;#39;s Summer of the Arts has an opportunity for your group to take part in a FUN team building experience that will allow you to give back to the community by helping out a vital non-profit arts and culture organization through your participation!
	In the past student organizations such as Dance Marathon, UI Honors, and The 10,000 Hours Show have participated in this event. This year we would like to increase the number of University Student group teams that participate! We think that student organization groups would have a blast participating as well as earning community service hours. Two or more groups can partner together to form a team as well as promote their individual organizations.
	If you are interested, we would like the opportunity to meet with a few people from your organization to give more details and answer questions.This is a fantastic opportunity to gain positive community visibility in the weeks prior to classes starting and to help contribute to what our organization does to make summer in downtown Iowa City fun and exciting!
	_____________________________________________________
	Sand in the City Team Participation Includes:

		Sandbox 101 Training Session

		Free T-Shirts and Lunches for 12 Team Members during the event

		A Professional Sculptor to act as your Coach during the event

		A Tent at the Event for Promotion&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

		Great Team Building Experience for your group

		Community Awareness and Marketing Exposure

		Community Citizenship - participating helps out all of our events

	Team Registration Form
	_____________________&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

	Possible Discounted Rate!
	___________________________&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
	We may be able to offer a discounted rate for student group teams if there is enough interest from UI student groups.
	Most of our participating teams find businesses in the community who will sponsor them. We have businesses coming to us who don&amp;#39;t have enough time or employees to form their own team, but they want to support the event and sponsor another group to participate.&amp;nbsp;
	The registration fee for each team is $1,500, but don&amp;#39;t let the cost scare you.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;
	Right now we are trying to gauge initial student group interest and create the University group teams. Then we will work with each team on how to get sponsors to help cover the registration costs.

	Please don&amp;#39;t hesitate to contact me with any questions!

	The message below is from Alexis Tomrell regarding an opportunity to work an event this weekend before the Iowa vs. Michigan State football game. If you have questions please contact her directly.&amp;nbsp; Her contact information is listed below.

	EventPro Strategies is coming to the University of Iowa for a &amp;ldquo;tailgate tour&amp;rdquo; for Allstate Insurance this SATURDAY and is looking for students to staff the event. The pay is $15/hr for staff. Before the game you will target fans with a photo and fan booth, plinko machine, football legacy museum, prizes and more. <title>The Salvation Army Needs Your Help!</title>
      <description>
	Student Organizations,

	The Salvation Army is looking for student groups who would be willing to participate in a &amp;ldquo;tag party&amp;rdquo;! Each year, community donors can select an angel from an angel tree and purchase gifts for that child. You and your organization can then volunteer your time to help sort, pack or distribute the toys or help sign families up to receive toys.

	There are several opportunities to get involved and volunteer your time:

	1. Helping cut, string, and label gift tags that will be hung on the &amp;ldquo;giving trees&amp;rdquo; at various locations around town. Each tag will be labeled with either &amp;ldquo;boy&amp;rdquo; or &amp;ldquo;girl&amp;rdquo;, the child&amp;rsquo;s age, and a suggested toy that could be purchased for the child. Salvation Army hopes to enlist volunteers to help them get the tags ready so they can be placed on the giving trees by the first week in November. This would be a good activity to do at student org. meetings, etc. since the tags can be picked up, cut, strung, labeled and then returned to the Salvation Army. Call Captain Smith (number below) to arrange this.

	2. Toy sorting is scheduled for Thursday, December 15th, from 9 AM to Noon and from 5 to 9 PM. Location, TBA. This opportunity involves sorting donated toys by age appropriateness, and also if it is a toy suitable for boys, girls, or both. Toys will be sorted and placed in labeled areas on tables so they will be ready to be packed the next day. Location, TBA&amp;mdash;call Capt. Smith for more details

	3. Toy Packing will be on Friday, December 16 from 9 AM to Noon and from 5 to 9 PM and again on Saturday, December 17th from 9 AM to Noon. To pack the toys, volunteers will be given a confidential list for each family that will be participating in the toy distribution. The list will show the ages of boys and girls in the family and their preferences for what kind of toys they&amp;rsquo;d like. Volunteers will then go from table to table and select presents for each child on the family&amp;rsquo;s list and place them in a bag so that the family can pick it up on Dec. 20th. Location, TBA&amp;mdash;call Capt. Smith for more details.

	4. Distribution will occur on Tuesday, December 20th from 9 AM to Noon. Families will come and claim their bags and take them home. Volunteers are needed to help with the pick-up. Location, TBA&amp;mdash;call Capt. Smith for more details.

	CONTACT INFORMATION: If you or your organization would like to help, please contact Captain Jennifer Smith at the Salvation Army. Her email address is Jennifer_Smith@usc.salvationarmy.org. You can also go to the Salvation Army website at http://www.icsalvation.org or call 337-3725 for more information.

      <title>Focus on Your Conflict Management Skills!</title>
      <description>
	Could you use a little confidence boost when&amp;nbsp;it comes to dealing with conflict in your student organization?&amp;nbsp; If so, take advantage of one or all of these workshops presented by The Office of the University Ombudsperson:

	&amp;ldquo;What&amp;rsquo;s Your Conflict Management Style?&amp;rdquo;
	Come learn about conflict management styles, which are ways we deal with conflict in our lives.&amp;nbsp;
	You will take a survey to understand your own style and discuss what your style means for you
	at school, at home, and at work.
	Tuesday, November 1, 4-5 p.m.

	&amp;ldquo;How to Have a Difficult Conversation&amp;rdquo;
	What makes some conversations so difficult?&amp;nbsp; Why do we avoid these conversations? How can we
	better understand difficult conversations?&amp;nbsp; This workshop will answer these questions and offer
	strategies for handling difficult conversations in the best possible way.
	Tuesday, November 8, 4-5 p.m.

	&amp;ldquo;Email:&amp;nbsp; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly&amp;rdquo;
	What annoys you about the way other people use email &amp;ndash; and how to you deal with your annoyance?&amp;nbsp;
	What makes an email communication go from annoying to worse?&amp;nbsp; We&amp;rsquo;ll talk about the rules and regulations
	related to your university email account, and discuss ways to make email a positive tool for communication.
	Tuesday, November 15, 4-5 p.m.

	You may select which workshops to attend (it is not necessary to attend all three). All workshops are
	free and will be held in C31 Pomerantz Center (PC).

      <title>Student Org Night at Diving Championship</title>
      <description>
	Student Organization Leaders,

	The 2011 USA Diving Winter National Championships are occurring at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center January 30th-February 6th, 2011. We would love for the University of Iowa community to get involved with this exciting event. The event will feature Olympic divers as well as University of Iowa divers, and they would appreciate your support.

	We are pleased to announce that Wednesday, February 2nd, will be &amp;ldquo;Student Organization Night.&amp;rdquo; The event will begin at 6:00 PM and feature the 1-Meter Finals. We encourage student organization attendance for this event. We will be offering a $75 prize to the student organization with the highest attendance, and a $25 prize to the runner-up. All prize money will be automatically deposited to the winning student organizations&amp;rsquo; accounts in the Student Organization Business Office. We will also be giving away $10.00 iTunes gift cards to five individual attendees. Wear your student organization gear to support your group.

	Ticket prices for student organization representatives and members will be $3.50 at the door on Student Organization Night. When student organization members and representatives purchase tickets they will need to mention the student organization they are representing. Student organization members and representatives will be asked to fill out a card with their name, email, and student organization name once they have purchased a ticket and entered the venue. The collected cards will determine the two winning student organizations and the five individuals who will win the iTunes gift cards.

	More information on the event can be found at http://usadiving.org or on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=180290501985721.

      <title>Could SVP Help Your Organization?</title>
      <description>
	Student Video Productions (SVP) is willing and able to help all student organizations get their name out and fulfill their HD video needs. SVP can make commercials, informational videos, and Public Service Announcements (PSAs), as well as film events like concerts, lectures, graduations, events, and much more. For years now SVP has filmed different events, student and community, and they wish to continue that tradition.

	Whether it is for marketing purposes or making videos and DVDs of great student events that you want people to see, SVP is a great option.

	Checkout past contracts SVP has done at http://svp.uiowa.edu/contracts-department/ then contact the SVP Contracts Manager at http://svp.uiowa.edu/contracts-manager/.

      <title>Homecoming 2011 Applications Available!</title>
      <description>
	Calling ALL Hawkeyes!!! Did you love Homecoming 2010? See something you want to change?

	Be a part of Homecoming Council 2011! Applications are available at http://homecoming.uiowa.edu/assets/Council-Application.pdf and the deadline is Friday, October 8 at 4:00pm in the Office of Student Life (145 IMU.)

	The University of Iowa Homecoming Executive Council is responsible for the coordination and execution of one of the largest student run events, Homecoming. Throughout the year the Homecoming Executive Council works extremely hard to plan a week of great events.

	Being on the Homecoming Executive Council is a big responsibility. It requires a large time commitment during the year. So please consider carefully whether or not you are able to make that commitment. There will be weekly meetings beginning in the fall semester and continuing throughout the spring and into Homecoming week.

	Please email Andy Rausch, Homecoming 2010 Executive Director (a.s.rausch12@gmail.com) or Nellie Hermanson, Assistant Director for Student Activities &amp;amp; Programming, Office of Student Life (nellie-hermanson@uiowa.edu) with any questions or concerns.

	Hey Student Org leaders!

	On behalf of UISG, we would like to encourage you to addend this year&amp;rsquo;s Hawkeye Leadership Conference. John and I ran on a platform that included implementing a Student Organization Summit, and we are excited that this goal will be accomplished in the 2010 Leadership Conference.

	We believe collaboration among student groups is beneficial for everyone and know if organizations work together on initiatives and events, you will have a bigger budget, more helpers, and more fun! We see this day as a way to improve leadership skills, meet representatives from other organizations, and brainstorm great ideas with each other.
	We hope to see you or other officers on Saturday, October 9th. This is also a great event for younger members to work on their leadership development.

      <title>Is Your Org. Ready to Submit $$ Requests</title>
      <description>
	The Office of Student Life has fully transitioned to our new student organization database entitled OrgSync. There are several advantages to using OrgSync as well as a few requirements.
	Student Organizations who wish to receive funding from The University of Iowa Student Government or The Executive Council of Graduate and Professional Students must complete the budgeting process by using the Treasury module within your student organization&amp;rsquo;s portal in OrgSync.
	There will be five training sessions to learn the new budgeting process. They will be held in the following rooms at these dates and times:
	September 20th, 2010, from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM in the Penn State Room.
	September 21st, 2010, from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM in the Ohio State Room.
	September 22nd, 2010, from 8:00PM until 9:00 PM in C121 PBB.
	September 23rd, 2010, from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM in the Minnesota Room.
	September 28th, 2010, from 6:30 PM until 7:30 PM in the Michigan Room.
	You MUST attend at least one of these sessions to learn the budgeting process in order to submit a budget/supplemental funding request. It will also be necessary to have your organization&amp;rsquo;s profile up-to-date, your personal OrgSync profile created, have joined your organization in OrgSync, and your administrator access granted before the first supplemental funding period deadline on October 1st, 2010.
	In order to create your OrgSync profile, if you have not already, follow these steps:
	1. Visit the OSL website at http://imu.uiowa.edu/osl
	2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the &amp;ldquo;Sign in OrgSync&amp;rdquo; button.
	3. Enter Your Hawk-ID and password.
	4. Create your OrgSync personal profile.
	5. Join your organization; you can either &amp;ldquo;request to join&amp;rdquo; or join using a password. The default password for all organizations is orgsync; if this password is invalid for your organization, someone else already has administrator access and has changed the password.
	6. If you are an organization&amp;rsquo;s principle representative and should be the OrgSync administrator for your group, please e-mail eric-r-rossow@uiowa.edu to have your administrative rights granted. In your email please include the e-mail address you used to create your profile and your organization&amp;rsquo;s name. If you have NOT created YOUR personal profile you CANNOT be added as an Organization&amp;rsquo;s Administrator.
	Also, remind all your members to join OrgSync and remember as an administrator to approve all new member requests.
	Finally, there will be more OrgSync training sessions held in October to learn more about utilizing the various modules within OrgSync. If you wish for you or your organization to have an individual or group consultation about OrgSync please e-mail Eric Rossow&amp;nbsp;(eric-r-rossow@uiowa.edu) or Kristi Finger (kristi-finger@uiowa.edu ) to schedule a time to meet.
	If you have any questions please contact the Office of Student life at 319-335-3059.
	Thank you,
	The Office of Student Life
